Fresh flowers make everything better.
Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. I love the feeling. I love the laughter. I love the joy. I love the decorations. I love the gift giving. I love the food. I love the togetherness. I love the singing. I love the stories. I love the love.
While a lot of those things seem to not involve my home, my home is in fact a huge part of the season.
Going into the renovations, I had a few thoughts. One, it won’t take us very long. Two, we will be done in time for Christmas.
Well, i’m here to tell you that it’s taking longer than expected (As always, right?) and I don’t think we will be done in time for Christmas. Unless of course a miracle happens. Which is possible. I don’t doubt it.
How did we get off schedule? A few things.
This. Pure joy. Love. Togetherness. Laughter. This event is called Joy of Christmas. Augustana College and Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover, IL (Jenny Lind Chapel) host this event every year; and folks, it’s truly magical. And meaningful. Put it on your calendar for 2017, you won’t want to miss it. This year, it moved me in big ways. More than I thought was possible. (Shay, you were right when you said this happened to you – I get it now.)
This. Pure love. Togetherness. Laughter. Decorations. Memories. There is nothing I love more than relaxing on my couch, coffee in hand, enjoying the love of my husband and my pups. God is good my friends.
This. Gift giving. Joy. Singing. Memories. Tis the season to be creative. I love DIY projects. And this year, I have been loving every minute of being creative. I love to give gifts. I love to wrap gifts. It’s my time to sing Christmas songs and make things look pretty.
I love to create things. If you missed my post on making a reindeer pillow, check it out here.
And the DIY Christmas cards, super easy! You still have time to make your own, check them out here.
So how am I making the best of the season when things are not ‘in order’ as I would like them to be?
They make everything a little better.
I picked up a few holiday colored flowers at our local grocery store, HyVee, and cut a few branches off of our Christmas tree. I also found some pinecones and a cute container to hold the flowers.
Add some twine, a cute ornament and there you have it. A beautiful arrangement to make the season just a little brighter. (Thanks Sonia for the inspiration!)
I also can’t forget about my Christmas tree. It counts in the ‘fresh’ category.
There is something about the smell of a fresh Christmas tree that I love. The ornaments. The lights. Perfection.
Sometimes I like to use my photography skills. I’m biased, but I think that picture is pretty awesome.
I love it. This beautiful mess is so worth it. (And you’re welcome family members, it officially takes you a minute longer to open your gifts because of the ribbons and bows. #sorrynotsorry)
If you’re struggling to get into the Christmas spirit, or just are not in love with your holiday ‘space’, try adding some fresh flower arrangements. They truly do make everything better.
