Homemade dog treats: Happy birthday Nash!

Nash is FOUR.

Can you see the cute little grey hair on his face?  In dog years, he’s actually 28.  That’s right around the time Bryn started getting grey hair!

Since we don’t have children and we don’t usually make our own birthdays a huge deal, we thought, why not spoil the dogs!?

Plus, this is our first year with the boys.  Although Nash already loves his mama and his new home, he loves it even more now that he knows how we celebrate ‘dog birthdays’.

In order to be the best birthday ever, he needs a ‘birthday treat’. Am I right?  Especially one he can share with all of his friends. Okay this is taking it w a y too far.  Dog friends?  Maybe it’s a real thing, I don’t know.

Regardless, Nash was on cloud nine. He loved them! Here’s how I made them.

Ingredients for treats:

½ cup peanut butter
1 cup pumpkin
2 eggs
¼ cup canola oil
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

Ingredients for glaze:

½ cup peanut butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine pumpkin, peanut butter, eggs and oil. Add baking soda and wheat flour and stir until stiff.

Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to make dog bone shapes or you can just make circles too.  (The rim of a cup works great.)

Here is the doggie treat kit I purchased: Doggie Treat Tin Cookie Cutter

Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Heat peanut butter in the microwave and drizzle over the treats.

Happy birthday to Nash – Enjoy!
